Mindfulness

Mindfulness has been shown to be helpful for difficulties such as depression, anxiety and stress and is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Mindfulness is a skill that needs to be practiced and involves learning to pay attention to the present moment and noticing thoughts come and go in your mind rather than getting caught up with them and ‘ruminating’. There is also an emphasis on learning to do this without judgement and with curiosity and kindness.

Mindfulness involves noticing what is going on in your body as well as your mind. Practicing mindfulness can involve things such as noticing the breath, mindful walking or just bringing your awareness to whatever you are doing in the present.
